Account Closed Without Notice: Debanking Adult Industry Workers in Canada

Account Closed Without Notice is a project responding to the phenomenon of debanking reported by pornography creators across Canada. Debanking (the refusal or closure of bank accounts and other financial products and services) impacts adult industry workers around the world, with significant impacts on their health, safety, and socioeconomic stability.  

Maggie MacDonald and Dr. Val Webber, wrote this piece in consultation with Maggie's, sex workers and other experts. The goals of this report are to:

1) identify systemic determinants of the financial exclusion of adult industry workers,

2) make this issue more legible to researchers, policymakers, and the public, and

3) offer recommendations towards securing financial inclusion for all.
