Better late than never? Announcing our new permanent ED, Chandra Ewing.

Chandra came to our Board of Directors from community, and now steps in as the new permanent ED. Since beginning at Maggie’s, Chandra has managed the rollout of new branding and communications policies, supervised numerous law and other placement students, authored a Community Impact Statement for a stealthing case, and pushed for more practical and integrated sex worker spaces and resources, while working in and against a progressively hostile political climate. She has been interviewed by the Toronto Star, Now Toronto, CBC’s The National and MacLean’s, and has partnered with the Toronto Public Library and the City of Toronto. She loves to find creative, innovative, fun and — dare we? — celebratory opportunities to advance sex workers’ rights in Canada.

She has a JD from the University of Windsor, Faculty of Law, a BA from Rice University and has studied Brand Management and Social Service Work at the college level. She articled for a large Bay Street firm and was this close to becoming a commercial civil litigator, but ultimately believes that our liberation will be more than a set of laws, and has chosen advocacy work instead. She has worked as a FSSW on and off for years.

Chandra is a Black mixed-race settler from Tkaronto and all over. She finds joy in walking her two incorrigible puggles and dancing in warehouses for hours, and approaches everything with an unshakeable sense of levity (though staff might say otherwise).

Her name means the moon in Sanskrit and in some places “light.” She goes by “-CE”.
